Improv Club - Neurodivergent Edition

Service Description

Join a weekly group of members to practice fun skills on the stage using our bodies, our voices, sounds, movements, characters, places, and anywhere the imagination takes us. Each class involves fun improv activities and then we will work on a group-chosen goal that can be a skit, a play, or our own invented stage games. Theater and improv can be a highly accessible and infinitely creative structure for people to practice body language, tone of voice, questions and answers, emotional processing, and so much more in the realm of becoming socially savvy. Improv Club is guided by theatrical instructor Logan Hyer-Long to learn and practice new improv skills and activities and occupational therapist Chris Wrzesien to maximize inclusivity of all members. Logan Hyer-Long graduated from Western Washington University in 2022 with a degree in Theatre Education/Performance, and became passionate about increasing access to the arts teaching theatre at BAAY. Now at the Max Higbee Center as a Recreational Mentor, he believes communities have the power to create happy and meaningful lives. Logan maintains a passionate presence in Bellingham community in local theatre, playing music, and hiking in the rain. He is dedicated to keeping it a place full of love, hope, play, and connecting through the arts. Chris Wrzesien's quest to become a wise and benevolent occupational therapist landed him working in schools in Bellingham, WA, ensuring students can access their learning, socializing, navigating, taking care of their self and their world. He joins Improv Club to ensure all members tap into their strengths and explore way to move through challenges to maximize enjoyment, laughter, and socialization on the stage. Although Chris might get stage fright every now and then, he has years of experience playing the piano and singing songs at Bellingham open mic nights. Please register for the free open house at Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth on December 6th at 4:30pm.
